Orton-Gillingham Early Learner Course* (July 8-19, 2019 Good Shepherd School, Golden Valley, MN): *No prerequisite. The early learner class is intended for all Orton-Gillingham teachers. Before a student is ready to read print, there are pre-requisite skills, including alphabet awareness, phonemic awareness, rapid-automatic-naming, and fine motor that must be present. Knowing how to recognize deficits in our students is a critical aspect of our skill set. This class is appropriate for teachers who work with the earliest of learners, and also older students who are continuing to struggle to read and spell. It is an imperative class for teachers of pre-schoolers and the primary grades. This class will include lectures, lesson plan writing, and an age appropriate practicum. Skills gained will directly apply to students. The CEUs earned can be used at continuing education credit OG-CT requirements. Course materials are included. Student Tutoring usually appropriate for non-readers – those entering K and older students that are not yet easily reading three letter words like ‘pet’. Students attend 9 days of class. Limited need-based scholarships are available for adults and children. Please email registrar@ogmn.org for access to scholarship application.
