Orton-Gillingham Level 1 Course: The participants will learn strategies to teach beginning reading including phonemic awareness, phonics, and spelling using a multisensory, structured, systematic and cumulative approach plus how to use error analysis to drive instruction. The participant will create lesson plans and work with students in a supervised practicum setting. All course materials are included. Practicum usually appropriate for students in grades K-3. Orton-Gillingham Level 2 Course: The participants will learn strategies to teach intermediate reading and spelling including phonics (rules), syllable types/patterns, and beginning affixes using a multisensory, structured, systematic, cumulative approach plus how to use error analysis to drive instruction. The participant will create lesson plans and work with students in a supervised practicum setting. OG 2 participants need to have completed 100 hours of OG tutor hours before class begins. All course materials are included. Practicum usually appropriate for students in grades 4-5. Limited need-based scholarships are available for adults and children. Orton-Gillingham Level 4 Course: The participants will continue to learn more strategies for teaching advanced language structure first introduced in Level 3. These advanced reading concepts are appropriate when working with students in grade 7 and above. Participants will also learn and practice strategies for working with pre-readers to build reading readiness. Participants will create lesson plans and work with students in a supervised practicum setting. All course materials are included. Two Practicums are available for Level 4: one is appropriate for students grade 7 through 12 and one is appropriate for pre-readers. Orton Gillingham of Minnesota (OGMN) provides teachers, tutors and parents with quality training and practicum supervision in the Orton-Gillingham Approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing. Classes are offered by professionals who have been training in the Twin Cities area for over two decades. OGMN also provides information about dyslexia and learning disabilities as well as referrals to practitioners trained in the Orton-Gillingham Approach.
